Reflections on Gilman's Wallpaper

I thought that Gilman's The Yellow Wallpaper was very hard to understand. The reason for this is because the way the writer/narrator jumped around. I kept asking myself is this a diary of the person, writing down her deepest thoughts and feelings. Then I thought possibly the story was ficiton and was written in first person. Anyways it amazed me at the skill that this person could write for having some kind of mental condition.

When reading this, I knew that the narrator was sick, but she never really came out and said what from. At times when she was talking about the wallpaper, which seemed like all the time, I thought that possibly she was suffering from schizophernia or hallucinations. Upon entering class the other day, we talked about her baby that she wasn't allowed to see, so the conclusion was made that she was suffering from postpardum depression. Now after looking over it again and talking about it, I have come to agree with this conclusion. However, if she just came out and told us what was wrong with her or gave us symptoms, instead of talking about wallpaper, it might have become easier to understand this piece.
